I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the importance of making decisions. No matter where we go or what we do, we will always face situations that require us to choose one outcome or action over another. That’s why it’s important to know how to make conscious, Christ-centered decisions.
In Psalm 43, the author faces a situation many of us can relate to. He feels like God has rejected him (43:2). In the world of “deceitful and wicked men,” the psalmist feels like the odd man out—it’s like the world is defeating him and God is doing nothing to stop this from happening (43:1).
We’ll all experience this feeling somewhere in our walks with Christ. It has to do with living in a fallen world. But there is a way to overcome this sense of rejection—by knowing truth! The psalmist uses truth to combat the lies the world is feeding him, saying, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (43:5). Though he experiences doubt, fear, frustration and probably a multitude of other emotions, the psalmist realizes God is still his Savior and his Lord. Though life seems rough and it feels like God has abandoned him, the psalmist knows this is not true and he chooses to praise God because of who He is.
Isn’t it wonderful to know that, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in, we can always make the decision to worship, love, honor, and praise our God? Because He is “the same yesterday, today, and forever,” and, though our circumstances and our feelings will always be in flux, God’s faithfulness will never fail (Hebrews 13:8).
