More

Jesus frequently taught in parables.  Parables seem to be real-time stories that connect today’s life with Kingdom life.  Kingdom life is just what life looks like as God has His way. Wrongs become right.  Hurts become healed.  Old becomes new.  Dead becomes life.

So, when Jesus taught, He used stories about His culture – farming, lights, Dads – to help people see how God’s Kingdom works.  Today, I think He might use stories about our culture – the mall, sporting events, Starbucks – to show us how His Kingdom is working.

When we see these stories, we realize there is more.  The stories open our eyes to see things that we haven’t seen before, to see more. More to God, more to this life, more to our life.   A parable helps us see that the more we’ve been created for is found in God’s Kingdom. Too many times we look for more in small places – jobs, relationships, addictions – but the Kingdom is the only place we can find more that is big enough to satisfy the image of God in us.

Challenge: Where are you looking for the more you’ve been created for? What needs to stop?  What needs to start?
