Read: Hebrews 13:20-21 & James 1:5
It’s disheartening to watch the moms portrayed on television and in movies. So many appear impeccably together, flawlessly professional. Beauty arrives without effort, and patience and grace are never lacking. Chances are, mothers, you probably know a real-life mom that seems to be perfect. Maybe their kids get better grades or show no disrespect. Perhaps their home is always spotless. Comparing ourselves, our homes and our families to others’ is disheartening and depressing.
God gives us real, tangible ways to make the right choices in our lives and in our parenting. His aid is always present, within easy reach and accessible at all times. Hebrews 13:21 says that Jesus can “equip (us) with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him.” What about those puzzling predicaments and gray areas we confront time and time again in parenting? He doesn’t expect us to go it alone. James 1:5says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Moms, we need to stop looking at the exterior shell of the other women around us. That’s not the complete picture. Just because someone appears together on the outside doesn’t mean there isn’t brokenness hidden on the inside. Focus on your own home, your own family and your own relationship with Christ. Mostly, focus on Christ! As long as you are looking at yourself you will always feel inadequate. Christ is your sufficiency. He will bless your faithfulness to your family!
