Moving Past Comfort Zones

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. —Psalm 143:8 (niv)

The plan was simple. I’d go to Birmingham, Alabama, for a three-day weekend to look at a dozen or so houses. Then my husband and I would go back a few weeks later to see the ones that passed the first round. Maybe, afterward, we’d put in an offer.

Instead, after thirty-six hours of looking, I’d found a house, put in an offer, and gone under contract, all without Brian having seen it. “It’s perfect!” I told him, and it was. It had everything on our lists, which we’d created as we diligently did our homework. Brian packed a bag and told his boss, “I sent Ashley to look at houses, and it seems she’s purchased one.” To his credit, the boss replied, “Well, Brian, sounds like you better go see it!” “Didn’t you guys just test-drive cars for a year before buying?” his coworkers asked. “I did,” Brian replied as he rushed out of the office, “but this time I sent Ashley!”

There are times I try to make life more complicated. If I do all these steps, I think, then surely that is God’s path. I’m ever thankful when God, Who knows my love of planning and order, thrusts me out of my comfort zone with a situation only He could align and whispers, “Go forward. Keep walking. Trust me.”

God, thank You for reminding me that Your time is the only time that matters.
