No Matter Where You Are

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, you’ll find the Christ the Redeemer statue.

Located on the top of Corcovado Mountain on a pedestal that’s 26 feet tall, you can’t miss it. Jesus is 98 feet tall and his open arms—a symbol of peace—are 92 feet wide.

When work began in the 1920s, the plan was to show that Christ loves all people and wants them to come to him. The builders made it so big to make sure that, no matter where you were in the city, you could look up and see Jesus.

That’s a pretty great reminder, isn’t it? No matter where you are, you look to Jesus.

That’s God’s plan too. My Father wants all those who see the Son and believe in him to have eternal life. He wants me to bring them back to life on the last day” (John 6:40). Jesus knew that was the whole point of coming to earth, living for us, and defeating Satan for us—so we can have peace now and forever in heaven.

By the way, not everybody can get to Brazil to see this statue. So you get to be a living Christ the Redeemer statue no matter where you live. God wanted his people throughout the world to know the glorious riches of this mystery—which is Christ living in you, giving you the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). The way you live your life can make you a living, breathing statue. That way when people look at you, they see Jesus. The peace they see in you will make them want that kind of peace in their lives too.

Chomp on this!

What things can we do to help people “see” Jesus?
