No-see-ums are itty-bitty bugs so small that, you guessed it, they can’t be seen. (That’s how they get their name.) Sometimes it seems like angels are God’s version of no-see-ums. Because you can’t see them, you don’t actually believe they are there. You forget that “he will put his angels in charge of you to protect you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11).
Elisha, God’s prophet, had a servant who felt like angels were no-see-ums too.
“When the servant of the man of God got up in the morning and went outside, he saw troops, horses, and chariots surrounding the city. Elisha’s servant asked, ‘Master, what should we do?’ Elisha answered, ‘Don’t be afraid. We have more forces on our side than they have on theirs.’ Then Elisha prayed, ‘Lord, please open his eyes so that he may see.’ The Lord opened the servant’s eyes and let him see. The mountain around Elisha was full of fiery horses and chariots” (2 Kings 6:15-17).
Elisha was given the gift of seeing God’s angels as they really are—surrounding and protecting the city from its enemies. For a brief moment his servant got to see it too.
Just because we can’t see angels the way Elisha did doesn’t mean they aren’t there. God has said they will be all around you, protecting you no matter where you go. Even—and especially—when you can’t see them.
