Do you ever feel as though knowing God on an intimate level is a challenging task? Sometimes we may feel disconnected because we can’t seem to hear Him, or we may wonder why He’s called us to do something that seems much greater than what we’re capable of.
Think about going to the gym for a moment. When you have a fitness goal, you don’t see results after your first work out routine and healthy meal. Goals cannot be met without diligence and obedience.
A full relationship with God boils down to the same aspects of perseverance (diligence) and faithfulness (obedience). From the Old Testament to the New Testament, this truth is evident:
Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. Deuteronomy 5:33 NIV
Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. 1 John 3:21-22 NLT
If you feel like you haven’t heard from God in a while, think back to the last request He asked of you and take note of whether or not you were faithful to His call. He may still be waiting on your obedience in that area before He reveals your next step.
When you feel called to do something that seems daunting, you can rest assured that obedience will harvest God’s fruitfulness in your life. If we always took on tasks that we were capable of doing in our own power, God’s will and faithfulness would never be able to shine through in our lives. If we are obedient when faced with situations that seem bigger than us, God will pour His favor over us. It is then that we will be the unbeatable, unconquerable, and unshakable daughters of Zion that we are called to be.
