Offering Ourselves to God

THEN THE PEOPLE REJOICED, FOR THAT THEY OFFERED WILLINGLY, BECAUSE WITH PERFECT HEART THEY OFFERED WILLINGLY TO THE LORD: AND DAVID THE KING ALSO REJOICED WITH GREAT JOY. — 1 CHRONICLES 29:9

Diane had felt sad and empty for months, ever since her only child left for college. A single mom with a full-time job, Diane had poured herself into Colton's world with all her non-work time and energy. Soccer games, music concerts, and sleepovers filled her world.

Now, she felt empty, alone. . .and old. She considered getting a dog, but that didn't seem fair to the animal, since she would be gone every day, all day. She took up a hobby, but it didn't satisfy, either. She prayed about what she should, and tried to be patient. Grief, she knew, took time.

One afternoon, she sat in her office taking a coffee break. As she read the day's paper, a new ad for a volunteer opportunity caught her eye. The local crisis pregnancy center advertised a need for mentors to guide young single moms. Suddenly, her heart leapt. She knew that God had led her to read the paper at that moment.

I could pour myself out again, she thought, and use what I've learned in parenting to help others. The prospect filled her with joy, and she picked up the phone to call the center.

LET'S PRAY:

Loving Creator, thank You for giving us chances to share all You've given us. Thank You that our willingness to sacrifice time and comfort is always rewarded with joy. Amen.
