God is on your side. I know a lot of people who would quibble with the focus of that statement; we’re supposed to be on his side and surrender to his purposes. He isn’t our teammate, after all; he’s our Lord. And while that’s certainly true, it isn’t the whole truth. According to the words of God himself, as expressed through biblical writers, he really is on your side.
“If the Lord had not been on our side,” David confidently assumed in one of his praises (Psalm 124:1, 2 NIV). Paul was even more emphatic: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31 NIV). A God who calls himself our deliverer, our protector, our provider, our defender, our healer, our comforter, and more is certainly on our side.
Take comfort in that, and make no apologies. Yes, it’s true, he doesn’t follow you and expects you to follow him. He’s Lord, and you aren’t. But that’s not the point. According to his own promises, he has committed himself to your welfare. He isn’t subverting the relationship; he’s pledging to sustain it and meet all your needs. In whatever you’re facing today and in whatever you will face in the future, he really is on your side.
