Open Wide

Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. (Psalm 81:10)

God issues this open invitation to his people with very few conditions. He has everything we need, and all He requires is for us to open up in faith to receive. Remarkably, the God of all resources often finds His people with closed mouths, closed hands, and few expectations. Sometimes, He even finds us with an unfounded drive to earn or deserve what He offers, as if that were possible. The result is continued need and untapped resources.

John Hyde, missionary to India in the early 20th century, appealed to this verse in his prayers and received astounding answers. He opened his mouth wide — his heart, his hands, his faith — and God filled it, just as He said. But this promise is not simply for past heroes of faith. It’s for all of us. Now.

Come to God with a wide-open mouth and an unwavering expectation that He will fill it. Ask and receive. Don’t hold back. The God of all resources is looking for people who simply know their need and — like trusting, persistent children — look to Him to meet it.
