Pester God

“Mom, can we have dessert?”

“Just a minute, I’m on the phone,” she says.

Twenty seconds later, you ask again—even though you can see she’s still on the phone.

She tells you to wait—and you wait what seems like six hours, but really was only seven minutes, until you ask again.

You ask and ask and ask until she just says, “Fine, yes, whatever.”

You know that’s how to get what you want. You pester your parents until they give in. That might drive your parents bananas, but that’s actually how God wants you to talk to him.

He wants you to come to him, to talk to him, to ask him for good things. He wants you to “ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you” (Luke 11:9).

When you pray, you keep talking and asking, never giving up. As much as God loves to hear your prayers for a baby sister or a new outfit or to get an A on a test, he also wants you to ask for the things he loves to give you: joy, kindness, wisdom, compassion, and a forgiving heart.

No matter what you pray, God promises that he hears you and will work everything for your eternal good.

Chomp on this!

What things have you been praying about lately?

How can you “pester” God with your prayers?
