Prayer Is Not a Last Resort

Today we’re talking about prayer. You know what I’ve noticed in my own life? When I think of prayer like a tech support line, like a thing I turn to when I just can’t handle something myself, I get frustrated—I feel like someone's on the other end of the phone, punching keys and hoping I get routed to the right person. It feels like something that’s a last ditch effort…like leaving a message and wondering if they’ll really ever call back.

But at those times in my life when I see prayer not as something I do only for urgent answers, but as a way of life, prayer takes on a whole new significance. As I connect with God daily, he not only guides me through the calm times, but when an emergency happens, it feels less like tech support and more like the personal number of the friend that knows how all this stuff works. It feels less like groping in the dark, praying for that last shred of hope, and more like trusting someone who is the source of my strongest hope. And it’s taught me this important lesson, and something I hope we can all grab onto today:  Prayer is not a last resort—it’s a way of life that leads to a full life.
