How can I repay the LORD for all His goodness to me? Psalm 116:12 NIV
Am I expected to answer today’s question? I don’t really think I can.
How can I repay God for all that He has done for me? If you've ever made a gratitude list, why not try adding a value to each thing on your list? How much is a breath worth? Ten cents for each inhale and each exhale? What would be your total at the end of each day? Could you afford it? How much is the ability to digest my food going to cost me? Could I even pay for such a machine each time I eat?
What about my eyesight? Is there a price tag for the gift of sight? Is gazing at a beautiful sunset or the colors on the birds in my backyard running up my tab in Heaven? Can I afford the ability to hear, to think, to love, to laugh? Would a giggle be as expensive as a belly laugh? What’s the going rate for taste buds these days? How much would the use of your arm and hand run if you had to pay for it? Does God take American Express or Master Card?
No, I can’t repay God for all He has done and is doing for me and neither can you. He is an awesome God who requires nothing in return for His goodness. That’s what we call grace. I should, however, desire to give Him nothing less than my everything. All I have should be His because of what He has first given me.
The Psalmist asked a good question. It has no answer, but it helps me to keep a proper perspective on my relationship to God. “All to Jesus, I surrender. All to Him, I freely give!” I should. He gave it all to me.
