Q&A with Jack Graham

Pastor Jack Graham is excited and humbled to serve as Honorary Chairman of this year’s National Day of Prayer on May 7. We recently sat down with him to get a sense of why this annual event is so vital to the spiritual health of our nation.

Q. Pastor Graham, why is the National Day of Prayer so important?

A. Our world is in turmoil… unstable… full of pressures and uncertainties. And sometimes the problems can seem so overwhelming that we wonder if there are any answers to the needs, to the troubles, to the tribulations we face. But there is an answer. And that answer can be found in prayer

God is looking for people like you and me who will so connect with Him in prayer that He can unleash His power through us. It is a power to overcome any trial, any difficulty, and any challenge. It’s a power that can change our nation, and our world.

Our theme is “Lord, Hear Our Cry,” inspired by 1 Kings 8:28: “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day” (NIV). Isn’t that amazing? Prayer takes you and me into the presence of God!

Q. How can I get involved?

A. You’re welcome to help host or simply join in, as millions of people will gather to pray at thousands of events facilitated by our volunteer coordinators and people just like you. I was asked to write the National Prayer, and everyone involved throughout the nation will be invited to simultaneously recite that prayer at 12:00 p.m. (EDT).

That National Prayer will generate a huge wave of prayer, flowing from one coast to the other, illustrating the unity of God’s people and acknowledging His dominion over the circumstances facing us. May He bless our nation as we humbly seek His face together on May 7!

Pastor Graham, as Honorary Chairman of this year’s National Day of Prayer, has written a National Prayer for spiritual renewal that will be simultaneously recited by millions of people at thousands of venues across the country on May 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. (EDT).
