Running the Race

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. - Hebrews 12:1-2

The Christian life is a race. It must be run with endurance. It requires training and discipline. It is about putting one foot in front of the other, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, but always, always moving forward.

When a runner stumbles in a 5K or marathon, what does he do? Does he just sit down right then and there and call it quits? If the race is not run with perfection, does he just throw in the towel? Of course not! Likewise, as you are running the race, when you get sidetracked or distracted, when you fall to temptation or take your eyes off the goal, ask Jesus to get you back on track.

An old hymn puts it life this:

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light, of His glory and grace!"

Look to Christ, the author and finisher of your faith. He will run right alongside you, encouraging you every step of the way.

LET'S PRAY:

Jesus, help me keep my focus on You as I journey through this life. It is not always easy, but You are always with me. Amen.
