Sarcasm

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, I have heard it said!

The Oxford Dictionary defines sarcasm as “The use of irony to mock or convey contempt.”

The saying goes, ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me,' but that statement could not be further from the truth. In fact, the exact opposite applies. Your physical body will heal, but negative and hurtful words can abide for a long time. In some cases, it is only the prayer of faith and deliverance that can set a person free.

We need to be careful how we speak. Proverbs 10:19 says, ‘In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.‘

If we cannot say anything kind about someone, let us rather say nothing at all. Just an encouraging word like, “God loves you” can make a vast difference to the life of a person who is possibly even contemplating taking their life because they feel so lonely, or unwanted.

Today, let us make a decision to speak life and not death over people, and to stop being sarcastic and ugly! Before we make a comment, let us ask ourselves a question, “What would Jesus say?”, and then do the same.

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
