Shameless Faith

The woman who pressed through the crowd to touch the hem of Jesus’ garments—likely the fringe of his prayer shawl, which carried prophetic significance—overcame a lot just to be there. She had been ritually unclean for 12 years, and she was a woman. Neither fact put her in position to touch a holy rabbi. No wonder she trembled when he singled her out. But she received no rebuke. Her audacity had connected her with Jesus’ power, and she was healed.

That’s usually how faith works. Faith is patient and enduring, but it’s also bold. Good things come to those who press into God when protocol seems to dictate against it. In fact, Jesus invited boldness in prayer often. God delights in showing his faithfulness among those who have the audacity to insist on it.

Be humble before God, but don’t be so unassuming that you miss the rewards of bold faith. Take hold of his promises, press through obstacles, and receive from him. You’ll find no rebuke for setting your hopes on his character. He rewards those who shamelessly pursue his goodness.
