Q: Should I change churches?
A: The decision to change churches is an important one. God has a plan for your life and being in the right church is a vital part of that plan. So your decision should be made prayerfully, seeking the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit (Psalm 37:23; John 16:13).
It’s important what you allow yourself to listen to and be taught on a regular basis. As a believer, you are responsible to see that you and your family receive accurate teaching regarding the uncompromised Word of God. It is best to avoid churches where doctrines and traditions of doubt and unbelief may still prevail. This does not mean you quit loving the church leaders or members and see yourself as better than them if you have been attending a church like this. You have a responsibility to stand in the gap in prayer, believing God will fill them with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:9-14).
Hebrews 10:24-25 instructs us to “think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” The reason for assembling together is to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Every believer needs fellowship with like believers. As we accurately share the Word with each other, whether in the home, church or Bible study, we will mature and grow strong in the Lord (2 Timothy 2:15).
