Have you ever heard someone say, “You’re either going into a storm, going through a storm, or coming out of a storm”? While true, this sentiment has always given me a foreboding sense of dread: Don’t get comfortable—something bad is about to happen!
I prefer James’ mindset instead when he says, “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance” (James 1:2-3; emphasis added).
This tells me there’s no need to walk around fearing what might be around the corner. Sure, unexpected hardships will come our way, but we serve a God that is fully capable of handling any situation. We can joyfully expect Him to use our circumstances for good, and when He does, we develop more patience, wisdom, and strength—qualities that enable us to endure.
While we may have to suffer through painful circumstances, we need not do so in vain. Look for God to guide your steps and watch—because, with Him, something good is always about to happen.
