I was mad. Seething, really. My friend had posted a comment on Facebook that really stung. I was ready to put on my boxing gloves. I typed a sarcastic response and quickly hit Post. There! At least I had stuck up for what was right.
Five minutes later, I got a phone call. It was my friend in tears, explaining to me that she had never intended her original comment to come across the way it had. She had been in the middle of dealing with sick kids and a pushy boss and had typed words that she never meant to say. And I had responded like a sixth grader on the playground. Oh, the power of social media!
Making amends with my friend was the easy part. But the angry words that I had so publicly aired were harder to take back, clashing against the truthful and loving words that I should’ve said in the first place—words that would’ve promoted peace and love instead of discord.
