Spiritual Power

“Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me” (Luke 8:46 NKJV).

Jesus didn’t see the woman touch him, but he knew someone had. It was different from the touch of the pressing crowds. The touch of faith stood out because it drew power from him. The flow of the Spirit was tangible enough to notice, even in the midst of a herd of seekers.

Most people believe the Spirit’s power to be imperceptible, and there are times when it is. He is always working, even when we don’t notice. But those familiar with the Spirit’s ways learn to discern how and when his power flows. It’s possible to sense when the spiritual environment shifts, when a prayer is answered in another realm long before the answer shows up in ours, when faith has accomplished its purpose. The eyes of our spirit can see things the eyes of the flesh never will.

Practice your spiritual perceptions. Ask God to increase your sensitivity to them. Learn to discern the movements of the Spirit when you pray, believe, and worship, or when others come to you with needs, agendas, or hopes. The more you notice these things, the more you can move in them intentionally—and the more the Spirit’s power will become a tangible experience.
