Take a TRIP

It’s time for the dreaded class presentation on your science fair exhibit. You are sick to your stomach just thinking about it. What if you mess up and the class laughs? What if your mind goes blank? It’s a good thing you have notes or you surely would get a failing grade and die from embarrassment.

Some people are as nervous to pray as they are to make a presentation. What if God laughs? What are you supposed to talk about? Sometimes it’s helpful to have your conversation planned. Today, you can use the word TRIP to help you make notes on your prayers.

Thanksgiving: “I will give thanks to you with all my heart, O Lord my God” (Psalm 86:12). God has given you a bazillion blessings. Say thank you.

Repentance: “Various sins overwhelm me. You are the one who forgives our rebellious acts” (Psalm 65:3). Be honest, you know you were mean, talked back, or chose to be lazy. Talk to God about your specific sins.

Intercession: “Make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and prayers of thanks for all people” (1 Timothy 2:1). God loves it when his children pray for each other. Talk to him about your friends and family—and even strangers in other countries—and their health, faith, problems, and relationships.

Petition: “Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you” (Matthew 7:7). God loves giving you both physical and spiritual blessings. Ask him to dump them all out into your life.

Enjoy your TRIP.
