Taking Matters into Her Own Hands

BUT THE LORD’S PLANS STAND FIRM FOREVER; HIS INTENTIONS CAN NEVER BE SHAKEN. — PSALM 33:11

Genesis 27 tells the story of Jacob, Esau, and their meddling mother, Rebekah. This mother was so concerned for her son's future that she took matters into her own hands.

An ailing Isaac instructed Esau to prepare a meal for him so that Esau could receive the blessing reserved for the firstborn son. Rebekah overheard this conversation and quickly hatched a new plan for younger son Jacob to receive the blessing. Rebekah's plan worked, and before Esau returned from his hunt, Jacob had stolen his brother's blessing. Although Romans 9:11 says this was God's plan all along, Rebekah's interference drove a potentially deadly wedge between her two sons.

Are you ever impatient for God's plans to unfold? Are you ever tempted to take matters into your own hands and act in a manipulative way? Sometimes this works and our plans succeed, just like Rebekah's. However, when we do this, the consequences can often be disastrous. Learn to wait on God. You can be assured that His plans and His purposes will be fulfilled. And His way is always the best way.

LET'S PRAY:

Thank You, Father, that Your plans stand firm, even when I try to intervene. Help me to wait patiently on You and to trust You to bring about Your plans in Your way and in Your time. Amen.
