Tempted Just Like You

“We have a chief priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he didn’t sin” (Hebrews 4:15).

“No one’s looking, just take it.”

“Who cares if your mom said no? She won’t find out.”

“Just hit him; he deserves it!”

Because Jesus was perfect, it doesn’t seem like he had a hard time following God’s rules. But he did. He was tempted in every way—just like you are.

His friends tried to get him to disobey Mary and Joseph. His brothers and sisters teased him. Satan came and talked to him personally, trying to get him to take up his power.

The only way his life was different is that he didn’t give in. He didn’t sin.

Jesus loves you so much that he was willing to be picked on, called names, and tempted. Knowing how hard is it to be tempted and still make the right choices means that Jesus is willing to help you face yours. “Because Jesus experienced temptation when he suffered, he is able to help others when they are tempted” (Hebrews 2:18).

Did you catch that? Jesus suffered when he was tempted. It wasn’t easy for him to say no. Yet he did it anyway so that he could take your place on the cross. He knows what you’re going through, and he is ready to help.

Chomp on this!
