What name is on your clothes? Some kids want to wear designer clothes because they believe it makes them cool. They believe that having a specific name that’s prominently displayed across the front (or the back) of you, makes you more valuable. Designers don’t mind because putting their names all over their clothes means you are a walking billboard for them. Not only did you pay for that shirt, but you now tell others about them. No matter what, though, those clothes aren’t going to last. You are going to either grow out of them, get tired of them and give them away, or wear them so thin that they will need to be thrown out.
God has clothes that last. He wants you to put them on and be a walking billboard for him. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience” (Colossians 3:12 NIV).
You have been chosen by your Designer. His love is what makes you holy, makes you “cool” in his eyes. You begin to care more about his clothes on the inside and care less about what you wear on the outside. Your actions—controlling your temper, resisting the urge to be sarcastic, saying “Yes, Dad” when he asks for help—make it obvious that you are wearing Jesus’ clothes. When you live like this, you won’t even need “Jesus” written on your shirt. People will simply know.
