The Courage of Our Convictions

Like never before in the history of the world, we need to stand up for the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

I have just read once again the very encouraging life story of Eric Liddell, the Scottish athlete who was chosen to represent Great Britain in the 1924 Olympic Games that were held in France. Britain was sure to receive a gold medal when Liddell was chosen to run in the 100-meter sprint.

But when Liddell found out that his race was to be run on a  Sunday, he withdrew, because he was convicted that the Lord would not be pleased with Him if he ran on The Lord’s day. Under tremendous pressure from the British, including the Prince of Wales, he would not reconsider.

After standing his ground, they allowed him to run on a weekday, but in the 400-meter distance, for which he had not trained. The Hand of God was upon him though… the valiant Scot not only took the gold but also broke the world record.

The World stands aside for a man who knows where he is going.

Let’s stand up for our convictions… and Christ will stand up for us!

If God is for us, who can be against us?  Romans 8: 31
