The Lord’s Voice

When you are sick, nothing soothes you like the sound of your mom’s voice. Her gentle words make you feel better. When you’re healthy, though, you don’t always hear her or you tune out what she says. (That doesn’t make it right, so don’t use that as an excuse.)

There’s something about your dad’s voice, however, that you just can’t ignore. It’s deeper, louder, and gets your attention. When he calls for you, you know you’d better come quickly.

For as loud as your dad’s voice might be, have you ever thought about what your heavenly Father’s voice can do?

Psalm 29 tells you, “The voice of the Lord rolls over the water. The God of glory thunders. The Lord shouts over raging water. The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord splits the oaks and strips the trees of the forests bare. Everyone in his temple is saying, ‘Glory!’” (verses 3,4,9).

Wow! Your God’s voice booms, crashes, and can rip the leaves and bark right off of trees. His voice makes everything and everyone fall before him because of his glory.

You know what’s amazing about this? Your God never uses his powerful voice to yell at you. Because Jesus lived and died for you, God uses his powerful voice to help you. “The Lord will give power to his people. The Lord will bless his people with peace” (verse 11).

The Lord, whose voice thunders louder than your dad’s, also has a voice that soothes you like your mom’s.
