The Whatever Prayer

I know how hard it can be... the pressures to fit in, wear the right clothes, have the right friends, and use the right words so you sound like you belong.

When I was a teen, I was so terribly insecure and felt so alone. I never felt like I really fit in anywhere.

I did things I knew was wrong only because I wanted to fit in with the right crowd.

Now that I’m older I have some experience I want to share with you...

It will get better, I promise. Those girls I tried to impress? I haven’t talked to any of them in twenty years. When you find yourself in the middle of a tough situation, try to remember that the people making life hard for you today probably won’t be in your life a few years from now. Make the right decisions today.

The clothes I had to have to fit into? Now my friends love me for who I am, not what I wear or what I look like. I can wear sweat pants and a t-shirt, jeans or a dressy outfit and they treat me the same.

I have a prayer I’m praying especially for you, as you get ready to start school this year. I call it the “Whatever Prayer”:

Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless the girl reading this. I ask you to show her in the love language you designed her with just how much you love her.

When faced with struggles this year, help her to take the noble path. Help her to be courageous.

When she wants so badly to fit in, help her to want to do things your way--the right way.

When she is faced with temptations that would draw her away from your perfect plan for her, help her to remain pure in her heart and mind, desiring only your best for her life.

She is your beautiful creation--there is no one like her. When she starts to compare herself to other girls, remind her how lovely she is, and how she is meant to stand out--not to fit in.

When everyone seems to be doing things she knows is wrong, equip her to be an admirable leader among her peers, showing them your way.

Remind her that in all she does to do it unto you, so that she will strive to be excellent.

Let no gossip or unkind words come from her lips. Call on her to be an encourager who calls to light all that is praiseworthy.

In the mighty name of Jesus…Amen
