Scripture: Job 32:1-34:37
Here we met Elihu, a descendant of Abraham. Interestingly enough, Elihu means "God is Jehovah." Jehovah is another form of the Hebrew word Yahweh, which translates as Praise Yahweh. I find this fascinating in light of the speech that young Elihu gave to Job and his friends.
Though young, Elihu spoke with assurance, wisdom, and confidence. He talked of the Almighty as if he had personal knowledge of Him. Unlike Job's other friends, Elihu did not spend his time bashing Job. Instead, he used his opportunity to address his elders to discuss the fairness of God. He gave two insights about God that make me think.
- God speaks time and time again though people do not recognize it (Job 33:14)
What have I missed because I did not know how to recognize God’s voice? - God carefully watches all we do (Job 34:21)
This is awesome! And perhaps a little frightening. How does this knowledge inspire the choices I make?
The older men are rendered utterly speechless over the wisdom spoken from young Elihu. Sometimes we need a youngin’ to shake up our thinkin’.
