No matter who we are, where we come from, or how long we have been on the journey, we all need to be reminded that real security comes from God. Finding our security in Christ is not an instantaneous event. Rather, it is a continuous, gradual, growing process.
Here is a checklist to keep at hand to remember these important principles in being a leader who promotes a secure environment and prepares leaders for the years ahead. The best is yet to come.
- Constantly judge yourself and your motives.
- Seek counsel.
- Find truth in criticism.
- Remember what counts—not your position, but your character.
- Learn to be vulnerable.
- Remember the promises of God:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
“For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Romans 13:1).
“I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
“I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).
- Trust in God.
- Learn the meaning of servant-leadership.
- Be a team player.
- Acknowledge others.
- Be a constant learner.
- Continue growing through discipline and study.
- Remember that life is short.
- Think future—10, 20, 50, 100 years from now.
- Know that you are secure as long as you walk with God.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the joy of knowing You and the instruction that we receive from Your Word.
Sometimes, Lord, we are so occupied with the present world that we miss the future. Please open our eyes so we become more concerned about You and Your kingdom than about the little things that occupy our attention.
Help us, we pray, as leaders, to find ways to empower people, to trust them and give them freedom, with guidance and coaching at the right time.
We are weak, but You are strong. We fail so often, but Lord, You are gracious to us and keep us going. So we humbly ask You to help us guard our hearts and minds and walk closely to You, knowing that in the end,
You are the only One who really matters.
Forgive us our foolishness and our forgetfulness.
May we trust You with our lives and our responsibilities and travel with You to the end.
