Have you seen the movie Air Bud? At the saddest part, when Josh (a young boy) was trying to send Buddy (the dog) away, my daughter covered her eyes. She didn’t want to watch because it made her sad. Her sister reminded her, “Don’t worry. It’ll all work out. It’s a Disney movie.”
Real life isn’t like a Disney movie. Sometimes there seem to be more sad parts and no happy ending. Some kids are in wheelchairs and don’t miraculously start walking. Classmates get cancer and die. Friends’ parents get divorced. You move to a new school and don’t see your friends anymore.
King David had plenty of troubles too, and he knew where to put his trust. “I will rejoice and be glad because of your mercy. You have seen my misery. You have known the troubles in my soul. I trust you, O Lord. I said, ‘You are my God.’ My future is in your hands” (Psalm 31:7, 14, 15).
God sees the sadness and the worries in your heart. At the same time, you trust him because you know he will use these experiences to help you grow closer to him and to grow up to be the person he knows you will be.
So for now, while you struggle, “Be strong, all who wait with hope for the Lord, and let your heart be courageous” (verse 24).
