Trying Hard or Hardly Trying?

When Michael Jordan was in high school, he tried out for the varsity basketball team his sophomore year. The coach felt he was too short, so he didn’t make the team. Having to play junior varsity while another sophomore played varsity motivated him. He studied and trained hard to become the star on his team, giving it his all. Michael kept that attitude through college and made a game-winning jump shot for his team to win the championship. Then he made it into the NBA and is considered to be one of the best basketball players of all time.

When I was in fifth grade, I didn’t try my hardest at school for the first part of the year. I didn’t even care about my grades. Then something dawned on me. I changed my attitude to be more like 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God.” I tried harder and used my God-given gifts to the fullest. I succeeded. My grades rose dramatically, and I realized how important it is to try my best in everything I do.

God doesn’t care if you are the best, but he wants you to do your best. Use God’s gifts to the best of your ability and give him all the credit, give him all the glory.

Chomp on this!

When have you not always given your best effort?

How does doing your best bring God glory?

Dear Lord, help me be thankful for what you’ve given me and give you the credit for when I succeed. Keep me humble. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
