Want to Reduce Your Dental Bills?

I got a great report from the dentist at my recent check up! The reason I celebrate this good news is that it has been very rare for me because I eat so much sugar.

The running joke with my dentist is that I am his retirement plan. Through the years, I have had a lot of work done on my teeth, mainly from cavities and root canals. I grew up on a steady diet of sugar and paid the price from its effect on my teeth.

What does this have to do with my finances and yours?

Well, for one, dental work is expensive. You see, I have not had any bad reports from the dentist since I went on my New Year’s resolution to drink water only. For me, that equated to giving up liquid sugar. My coffee, whether a cappuccino, latte or just a regular cup, was basically hot, caffeinated sugar water. The sodas I like were all full of sugar, and of course the famous southern sweet tea is a glass of sugar with tea flavoring. By eliminating all that sugar, especially in liquid form, my dental bills have dropped to nearly zero.

Our American diet is already loaded with sugar, and the consequences are expensive in terms of health care, dental work and loss of energy and vitality. What began as a New Year’s resolution in 2015 has continued today. It has been so encouraging to me that I also dropped desserts from my diet.

My hope is to make this an ongoing lifestyle choice. Think about cutting back on the sugar. It will save you money, increase your energy and help you be more productive.
