Washed Clean

Also get rid of your anger, hot tempers, hatred, cursing, obscene language, and all similar sins. Don’t lie to each other. You’ve gotten rid of the person you used to be and the life you used to live, and you’ve become a new person. This new person is continually renewed in knowledge to be like its Creator” (Colossians 3:8-10).

You’ve been outside playing in the dirt. There’s mud in between your toes, in your hair, and all over your clothes. Personally, you don’t care so much, but you know the minute you walk in the door your mom is going to say, “You are filthy! Get in the tub!” You also know exactly how she’d react if you put your dirty clothes back on after your bath.

Before you were part of God’s family, it was like you were playing in the mud. Fighting, being sassy, disobeying your parents, and whining didn’t bother you. But now that you are clean, the dirt feels, well, dirty. When you were baptized, you were washed clean by Jesus, and now your sins feel filthy.

Every day when you wake up, remember that Jesus has forgiven your sins. You are clean. You are new.

Dear Jesus, thank you for washing away the dirt from all of my sins. You have made me a clean person, a new person. You have made me to be more like you. Thank you. Amen.
