Philippians 1:6 states “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
I recently heard an interview conducted with Kevin Turner, COO of Microsoft. He was asked about his views on leadership. Not surprisingly, he stated leadership was adding value to others.
Turner stated he has always tried to have an external focus, a lesson he had to learn the hard way but one he learned in an effort to be driven by the ‘right things’. He stated he begins every day asking ‘What can I learn today?’ and ‘Whom can I learn it from?’ Keeping sharp and personal growth were important activities for any leader. At the end of the day, Turner wanted to be known as someone who poured himself into people.
In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey discussed the principle of ‘Beginning in the End in Mind.' The idea of this principle is to consider how you would like people to remember you and once you have determined that, live your life towards that end. You would not decide one day to simply build a house without a plan or blueprint. Any good work deserves the time and effort to do it right, which requires planning and execution.
