Wildly Creative

Even if we weren’t convinced by the stunning colors of a sunset or the marvels of human biology, a deeper look into the intricacy and beauty of the created world would bring us back to our senses. A telescope and a microscope would simply multiply the marvel. God has filled his world with sights, sounds, smells, and so many other samples of his genius. He is wildly creative.

That ought to be a profound encouragement for every artistic type who has felt like a misfit in this world. Yes, there are established (and often exclusive) systems in place that seem to run the world, but they don’t run the universe. God does. And every human being, in our truest identity, fits perfectly into it—those who are out-of-the-box creative perhaps most of all. Why? Because God is a Creator, and we are made in his image. We were born to create.

If you want to be like God, never run from your creative power. Embrace it. Only God can create something out of nothing, but we can take the somethings he has made and fashion them into brilliant reflections of his artistry. Just as he spoke and the world came to be, so can we speak and influence our surroundings. We were designed to be able to notice designs and apply them.

This is just a small part of what it means to rule with him in his kingdom (Revelation 3:21; 5:10), to some degree now, and certainly more fully when he comes. In the meantime, embrace your creativity in whatever form it comes. It’s a reflection of the Creator and an expression of his artistry.
