Yes, and Amen

No matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV).

We read God’s promises, even sense them in our hearts. But almost immediately our suspicious minds raise questions. Is this promise for me? Does it apply to my circumstances? Am I understanding it in context? Do I qualify?

The answer to most of our questions, according to the New Testament, is that they are generally irrelevant. They focus on the wrong subject. The issue isn’t whether we qualify or meet the conditions. Jesus does. He is worthy of the fulfillment, and we are in him. By our union with him, we receive whatever he receives. He is therefore God’s “yes” to everything that was promised.

You can count on that by faith. You may have to position or prepare yourself at times to receive God’s promises, but that’s just a matter of timing. The only condition really required is for you to say yes—is to add the “amen” to what God has spoken. When you apply God’s promises to Jesus, who is always worthy of them, and then see yourself in him, your faith rises. And you receive whatever God has spoken for his people.
