What do aliens look like?
In Monsters vs. Aliens, Gallaxhar has a big egg-shaped head, four eyes, and octopus-like legs.
In the movie E.T., the extraterrestrial alien is a small wrinkly creature with a light on the end of his finger.
God tells you that if you want to know what an alien looks like, then you should look in the mirror.
Really? You bet.
The night before Jesus died, he was eating dinner with his disciples. He looked to heaven and prayed, “I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:14-17 NIV).
When Jesus prayed, “They are not of the world,” he was saying that even though you are living here for a while, you are not really from here. You are part of God’s kingdom. Your time on earth is just a visit; you are waiting for God to take you back to your real home.
When Jesus asks God to sanctify you, he is asking God to set you apart, to make you look different. When you stop bullies from picking on someone, when you refuse to get involved in drama at school, when you choose not to pass along a rumor, you look different. You look like an alien. That is exactly what you are.
