You Are God’s Goose

Duck, Duck, Goose is pretty much a universal kids’ game. Everyone sits in a circle while one person walks around tapping kids on the head saying, “Duck, duck, duck, duck, duck . . . goose!” The goose gets up, runs around, and chases the person who is It.

The thing is, when you’re It, you know who the goose is going to be, don’t you? You’ll walk around the circle saying, “Duck, duck, duck” . . . but you’ve got your eye on your best friend. He’s the one who’s going to be the goose.

It may sound silly, but God’s had his eye on you. You are God’s goose. “Before the creation of the world, he chose us through Christ to be holy and perfect in his presence. Because of his love he had already decided to adopt us through Jesus Christ. He freely chose to do this” (Ephesians 1:4,5).

Before this world even started, he knew how things were going to turn out. He knew he’d have a salvation plan; he knew he wanted you to be part of it. So before the world even started, God had you picked out. Now, because of Jesus, you are holy and perfect. Because of Jesus, you are loved. Because you are loved, you are his child.

By the way, you know how sometimes a teacher notices that the same kids are getting picked over and over so she says, “Make sure you pick someone else” and it wasn’t who you really wanted to choose? God freely chose you. Before the world was even formed, God had his eye on you. Duck, duck—goose!

Dear God, thank you for choosing me as your child. Amen.
