You Are God’s Minion

In Despicable Me 2, the evil El Macho keeps kidnapping Gru’s minions. These hilarious yellow minions turn into evil purple mutants when they get the PX-41 serum. They become wild, destructive, indestructible, and terrifying monsters. They are doomed. There is no escape. Until their boss, Gru, comes on a rescue mission with the antidote.

When God created Adam and Eve, they were his yellow minions. When Satan, the ultimate El Macho, tempted Adam and Eve to sin, they became his evil purple mutants. Every human since then has PX-41 serum in his or her blood. We are wild, aggressive, and sinful. In Psalm 51:5, David wrote, “Indeed, I was born guilty. I was a sinner when my mother conceived me.”

The same way the minions couldn’t stop being evil on their own, there was nothing you could do to rescue yourself. So God, your boss, sent Jesus on a rescue mission. His blood on the cross is your antidote.

“At the same time we can expect what we hope for—the appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. He gave himself for us to set us free from every sin and to cleanse us so that we can be his special people who are enthusiastic about doing good things” (Titus 2:13,14).

You are not under El Macho’s control. You are no longer a purple minion. Jesus came and set you free. You have hope. You are free to be God’s minion.
