You Are Special

Do you ever feel that you aren’t very special? Maybe you don’t get the best grades in class or have the fastest mile time or create the best paintings. Maybe you can’t play piano that well, or you think that the freckles on your face look weird.

You might feel sad and disappointed for a while because you think you aren’t as good as everybody else. Here’s some news you should hear: “I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this” (Psalm 139:14).

God made you special. He gave you specific gifts for reasons you may not see now. He made you exactly the way he wants you to be, down to the last freckle or toe. You probably haven’t thought about that. Everything about you was designed by God before the world began. How cool is that?

Chomp on this!

List five things that are unique about you and the gifts God has given you. Then thank him for his miraculous work of making you.

Dear God, sometimes my brain forgets that you made me so amazingly, especially when I see kids who do things better than I do. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who lives inside of me and reminds me that every single one of your creations—including me—is miraculous. Amen.
