In Haitian culture, a zombie is a dead person who is animated by magic or witchcraft. They aren’t really alive; they’re just the walking dead.
In popular culture, people pretend they are zombies—also called the undead—by wearing torn clothes, putting on pretend blood, and walking around mindlessly while moaning.
In the Bible, it turns out that people who do not believe in Jesus are zombies—and you were a zombie too!
“You were once dead because of your failures and sins. You followed the ways of this present world and its spiritual ruler. This ruler continues to work in people who refuse to obey God. But God is rich in mercy because of his great love for us. We were dead because of our failures, but he made us alive together with Christ. (It is God’s kindness that saved you.) God has brought us back to life together with Christ Jesus and has given us a position in heaven with him” (Ephesians 2:1,2,4-6).
When you follow the world and Satan, you are walking through this world spiritually dead. There is no hope, no peace, no joy. But God loves us and hates to see us in that condition. So he sent Christ to pay for your sins—and to truly raise you from the dead.
Now instead of being the walking dead, you are alive and will rule along with Jesus in heaven!
Dear Father, help me look for those who are spiritual zombies in this world. Help me tell them that Jesus has made them alive. Help them believe it so they can truly live. Amen.
