You Have Your Own Angel

“Be careful not to despise these little ones. I can guarantee that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father, who is in heaven” (Matthew 18:10).

Sometimes when you do something really foolish—like jumping off a roof or running out into the street or any of the other dangerous things you do—adults will joke that your guardian angel is working overtime just to keep you alive.

Jesus says that’s not so far off. In today’s passage, he tells adults to pay attention to kids, to treat them well. Then he adds this sentence: “I can guarantee that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father, who is in heaven.”

Just because you are a child doesn’t mean you are ignored or overlooked or unimportant. In fact, you are so valuable to your God that he assigns angels to watch over you.

What do your angels do? The Bible tells us, “What are all the angels? They are spirits sent to serve those who are going to receive salvation” (Hebrews 1:14).

Angels get their greatest joy in carrying out God’s will—and that means serving you. God’s servants protect you with their power. They watch over you because they are intensely interested in making sure that Satan’s lies don’t work on you and that you end up in heaven forever—where you will see God’s face too.
