You Make God Happy

“The Lord your God is with you. He is a hero who saves you. He happily rejoices over you, renews you with his love, and celebrates over you with shouts of joy” (Zephaniah 3:17).

At some point in almost every day, I bet you feel like a failure. You didn’t study enough, so you didn’t do well on the test. Fail! You struck out when the bases were loaded. Fail! You dropped the dishes, and they broke all over the floor. Fail! You got grounded for fighting. Fail!

Stop that right now. When you call yourself a failure, you are calling God a liar. You act as if Jesus didn’t actually win. Do you make mistakes? Absolutely. Did Jesus cover all of that when he died on a cross? He sure did. Because of Jesus’ success, every day you get to know that God—your hero—saved you from eternal failure. Not only do you get to live in heaven forever with him, but he is happy because he gets to spend eternity with you! He loves you, he likes you, and he thinks you rock. You make him so happy that he wants to throw a party.

That’s what you need to know today. Believe it. It’s true.

Dear God, sometimes I forget that I make you happy. You tell me that I do, though, and I know you don’t lie. Thank you for being my hero, for making me special. Help me remember every day that you are with me, love me, and shout for joy because I’m yours. Amen.
