You Need an Organ Transplant

What is today? I bet you said Valentine’s Day. You’re right, but today is also National Organ Donor Day. It might sound a little strange, but it kind of fits. On the day when we talk about exchanging love, people want you to consider giving part of yourself to help someone who is very sick.

This might also sound a little strange, but did you know that you’ve already had an organ transplant?

In Ezekiel 36:26, God tells you that he’s already performed an operation on you: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh” (NIV).

At your baptism, God took your original heart—the one that didn’t love him, the one that loved doing bad stuff—and gave you a new heart. Your new heart loves what God loves. It wants to learn more about him. With your new spirit, you get excited to tell others about Jesus.

Happy National Organ Donor Day! And thank you, God, for giving me a new heart.

Dear God, my old heart was cold and hard and full of sin. You knew that, and you knew I couldn’t change it on my own. Thank you for sending Jesus—the best Valentine—to live in my place so that I could have a new heart that loves you. I love my new heart and my new spirit. Thank you! Amen.
