You Need the Spirit

Think of all the things you don’t like about yourself.

I'll bet you came up with at least three things in three seconds. Maybe you think you get angry too quickly, or you don’t like being so quiet. Maybe you think you’re stupid, or maybe you don’t like your ears.

If you were left on your own, then you truly would believe the bad things you tell yourself. That, right there, is the whole reason you have the Holy Spirit, the reason you need the Holy Spirit. You can’t believe God’s message without him.

When you were baptized, the Holy Spirit stamped God’s name on your heart. “Now, we didn’t receive the spirit that belongs to the world. Instead, we received the Spirit who comes from God so that we could know the things which God has freely given us” (1 Corinthians 2:12).

Thanks to the message of the Bible, the Holy Spirit whispers that God freely paid an exorbitant price, the life and death of Jesus, for you—all because he absolutely loves you. Heaven’s Coach encourages you to see that Jesus has paid for the times you got angry too soon—and he loves you. He tells you that he designed you exactly the way he wants you to be. He tells you that you are wise. And he tells you that no matter what the world tells you, you know you have a God who loves and forgives you—all because he chose you to be in his family.
