You Stink!

I bet you didn’t know that today is National Fragrance Day. Yep, there’s actually a day that celebrates your sense of smell. Immediately, I bet you thought of the good smells: flowers, apple pie, and bacon. Nobody wants to think about smelling the stinky stuff—skunks, garbage, and brussels sprouts.

Believers have a fragrance too. But I thank God, who always leads us in victory because of Christ. Wherever we go, God uses us to make clear what it means to know Christ. It’s like a fragrance that fills the air. To God we are the aroma of Christ among those who are saved and among those who are dying. To some people we are a deadly fragrance, while to others we are a life-giving fragrance” (2 Corinthians 2:14-16).

To other believers, you smell great. Just like the smell of pizza makes you happy, as part of God’s family, your presence cheers up the people around you. Your encouragement and joy are all around.

However, you are as stinky as a skunk to people who don’t believe in Jesus. Now, nobody wants to be the stinky kid, but the truth is that Jesus’ teachings offend them. They want to hold their noses. Because you believe what Jesus said, you are just as smelly.

Today, go celebrate your stinkiness in Christ!

Chomp on this!

How can you spread the life-giving smell to the people you know?

What are some ways you can handle it if people are offended by your faith? If they think you stink?
