You Were a Werewolf

Let’s just get this out of the way. Werewolves are not real. You can’t switch back and forth from a person to an animal. It can’t happen because that’s not how God created things to work.

That said, werewolves make for great characters in movies and television shows. If you want to make a movie extra creepy, you add a person howling at a full moon and transforming into a blood-thirsty creature. Werewolves prowl around, looking to bite humans—to turn them into werewolves too.

From the moment Adam sinned, he became like a werewolf. From then on, every person born would be bitten by that same curse: “Sin came into the world through one person, and death came through sin. So death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned” (Romans 5:12).

Werewolves can’t do anything about their condition. The only way to stop them is to kill them. (Most movies show you need to use a silver bullet or drive a silver stake into their hearts.) You can’t do anything about your sin condition either. The only way to cure you is to kill your sinful nature, which is exactly what Jesus did on the cross. When he died, he took your sinful nature and buried it with him. When he came back to life, he gave you a new nature, a spiritual nature that will live with him forever.

This isn’t good news only for you. This is for all the sin-werewolves out there. “Clearly, through one person’s disobedience humanity became sinful, and through one person’s obedience humanity will receive God’s approval” (verse 19).

Jesus came and changed you from a werewolf to a child of God. THAT is real.
