Your Inheritance

Most parents and grandparents have a will. That’s a big pile of papers that lets people know who gets what when they die. Most of the time, everything gets left to their children and grandchildren. (That’s you!) Maybe you’ve been given some jewelry or money or a dollhouse or furniture or toys. Those things are called an inheritance.

When Jesus lived on this earth, he called all believers his brothers and sisters. If you are his brother or sister, that means you are God’s child. “If we are his children, we are also God’s heirs. If we share in Christ’s suffering in order to share his glory, we are heirs together with him” (Romans 8:17).

As God’s child, you are in God’s will. He has an inheritance waiting for you. It’s better than money; it’s better than a car or a house or furniture or jewelry. You have glory waiting for you. You get to reign with Jesus in heaven.

When God tells you that it’s time to go to your heavenly home, this is what it’s going to sound like: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world” (Matthew 25:34 NIV).

When you get to heaven, you will hear, “Welcome home!” That’s the best inheritance ever.
