The relationship you share with co-workers and those who you frequently are in contact with nearly every day helps to develop your spiritual maturity. Yes, even when surrounded by the ungodly conversations, nasty jokes, cursing, irresponsibility and deceitfulness, you are still called to be a positive witness because you are in this world, but certainly not of this world. You must be the difference.
Through your relationship with the Father and living a consecrated life, you can positively impact the lives of your co-workers and those you casually come in contact with each day. You may never know or understand what people are really going through behind closed doors or how your witness is affecting them on the inside. Even though they come to work angry, depressed, broke, disgusted—even taking it out on you—you should be able to show them the love and peace of Jesus through your life. Whether they act like it or not, they rely on your smile, your faith, your prayers and your stable walk in Christ to get them through one more day. Remember your testimony and how the Lord brought you through? We weren’t so easy to love either! 1 Corinthians 6:11 reminds us, “And such were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
Your assignment goes far beyond the church walls. Luke 14:23 says, “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.”
So, what are they saying about you on the job? Can they go to you for spiritual or positive advice, or do they consider you to be no different from any of the others who aren’t saved? Do you have a good reputation of integrity, accountability, and respect for those with whom you are associated? If not, you can turn all of this around today!
As you step into your place of employment, the grocery store, gym or even the mall, bring God the glory. Allow God to change the entire atmosphere through your love and relationship with Him. I’m not saying for you to start speaking in tongues and pouring oil all over the place. But live your life so that your light will shine bright before men, “…that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
